Testimonials

I have so many good things to say about my experience with Robert and his team that I don't know where to begin. I have a Capital Hill row house that started as a kitchen and bath remodel and ended up being a complete renovation from top to bottom, inside and out. Robert was involved at every level of the design phase and made several very cost effective suggestions that took the completed project to a whole new level. He had a very good sense of interpreting my vision of what the house could be, enhancing it and then bringing it to life. His experience on Capital Hill helped him to anticipate and alleviate potential problems as the project unfolded. I was kept apprised of the progress of the project on an almost daily basis via e-mails, phone calls and weekly meetings. Having never undertaken a project of this magnitude before I had numerous questions that he patiently answered, even though I am sure that I must have been getting on his nerves at times.Equally impressive was Robert's crew. They were polite, friendly, took obvious pride in their work and were true craftsmen in every medium - tiling, woodwork, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and painting. Everything was done with precision and in a timely fashion. I've already recommended Robert to one of my friends and would not hesitate to refer them to anyone I know. His company offers a sense of integrity, professionalism and craftsmanship that I've rarely encountered.

When is the last time you heard anyone say "on time and on budget" concerning a total home renovation? Well, we can say that about Sestak Remodeling Solutions' renovation of our Capitol Hill condominium. From start to beautiful finish Robert Sestak and his team were the ultimate professionals, always responsive and courteous, going beyond the norm to accommodate the client's (my husband and my) wishes as well as our busy schedules. As yes, as the need arises, we would most definitely put in a call to Robert.

My project was almost an entire gut job of two floors of a 1905 Capitol Hill row house that had received it's last major renovation in the 1960's and some tile and plumbing work more recently in the bathrooms plus the usual maintenance. My main goals were to open up the first floor which had a wall between the kitchen and living room, up-date the kitchen, turn a small, dark room between 2 bedrooms upstairs into a laundry/work/storage room, and enlarge the master bathroom to accommodate both a bathtub and shower. These goals and more were accomplished by Robert and his crew. Robert spent a lot of planning time with me before the project started and continued discussing the project with me as it proceeded. He consulted with me every time a major decision had to be made and gave me excellent advice on what to do. He was available all the time (I don't think he sleeps) or let me know when he wouldn't be available for a time. His crew started promptly at 7:30 every day (unless I was told otherwise) and ended between 5 and 5:30 leaving the place neat and as clean as possible with the tools and supplies stored in one corner. They were respectful of me (I was living downstairs in the rental apt) and the neighbors and were true craftsmen taking their work seriously. They understood the quirks of old houses and were able to solve any problems that arose as results. No shortcuts were taken to make the job quicker. The few times something didn't turn out the way I wanted it (such as the end posts of the stair railing being too high) they corrected it immediately and without complaint. The project started on time, proceeded on schedule or changed as additional work was added, and was completed in a reasonable time. In previous work I've had done by others, there were always some little items left undone and it was impossible to get the contractor back to fix them. This was not the case with Sestak Remodeling; they came back a few times to fix things until everything was done to my satisfaction. A budget was set at the beginning and Robert tracked the expenses so I could see how much was being spent. The budget was only exceeded because of additional work I decided to have done as the project proceeded. Others I know who have used him have similar good things to say about him. I have no hesitation in recommending Sestak Remodeling to anyone.

Robert Sestak first worked for me in 2004. His company remodeled the apartment in the basement of my 1887 Washington DC five story row house. The job included removing a wall, installing new windows and doors, a new kitchen (cabinets, appliances, plumbing, electrical), a new bathroom (Jacuzzi tub, toilet, sink, limestone tile walls), and heated tile floors throughout. He has since remodeled a bathroom and put in new doors and windows in the main house, remodeled my father's home in Chevy Chase and done an extensive remodel of our farm outside of DC: three new bathrooms, new kitchen, walls moved, 2nd story bedroom enlarged, new wood floors and heated tile floors.
In addition, he and his crew have figured out how to solve problems in our homes that no other contractors over the years were able to address or fix - his crew was able to permanently fix "those mystery issues" every house has that I was having to deal with every 6 months or so - like leaking skylights, etc. But if he cannot do something - he is always honest and helps to find someone who can.
I have never used a designer or architect in my projects with Sestak Remodeling. Robert works with me to create workable designs. His crew will always accommodate "on the spot" changes. I can show them a photo or a drawing and they have been able to recreate exactly what I want from scratch. For instance - the sink cabinet in my master bathroom at the farm - I showed them a photo of an antique Mexican side table I liked - I did a drawing of how many drawers I wanted and they were able to build, distress, stain, and install a beautiful and accurate reproduction in a matter of days on site.
I have remodeled dozens of homes in Utah and California and have never worked with a contractor or crew that was better. He and his crew were always courteous, clean, and thorough - they always arrived on time and always finished ahead of time. I have never had a cleaner job site, a more hard-working or faster crew, or better communication. I recommend Sestak Remodeling without reservation and am available for questions.

The kitchen remodel involved demolition of existing structures and the subsequent installation of new walls, cabinets, sink, countertops, and appliances. New heated flooring, ventilation, and lighting systems were also included in the project which required extensive electrical and plumbing solutions. Prior to demolition, the Sestak Remodeling team carefully sealed off adjoining areas of the house to prevent the transference of building dust; hardwood floors were covered. Within a day, a temporary, sealed-off, work/staging area was created, and old appliances, cabinets, and debris were removed from the site. New walls were made plumb and the new flooring made level to accept the precise variances allowed by European cabinetry and appliances. An existing, protruding and crooked, brick chimney flue was expertly modified flush with the wall to accommodate the new cooktop ventilation system.
Prior to the project, Robert Sestak met with the owners, listened carefully to their ideas, and offered his own expert opinions and suggestions. He carefully made initial measurements for the design team and returned on a later day to further confirm the exactness of those measurements. Robert visited the worksite every day or so to check on the progress and quality of the work and then emailed us with updates. At periodic stages of the project, he met with us on-site to assess our satisfaction and to discuss timelines. He additionally conducted a detailed walk-through with us at the close of the project, again to ensure our satisfaction with the quality of the work. Robert also met with the design team in Boston and conferred with them as necessary.
Attention to detail was a hallmark of the work provided by the Sestak Remodeling. We continue to admire the unique wood moldings created by the workers to match those in the adjoining dining room. Measurements were so precisely made that any spaces between appliances and cabinets are now perfectly linear, which is a great accomplishment in a 104-year old Capitol Hill rowhouse! The workers were skilled, professional craftsmen in the European tradition who took sincere pride in their work. They were friendly and polite and respected our home environment. We actually missed them after they were finished. We are sincerely proud of our new kitchen and would highly recommend Sestak Remodeling to anyone interested.
